    The work

What brain injury work actually looks like

This is care with a direction to it. After an acquired brain injury or stroke, the work is about rehabilitation, supporting someone to relearn everyday skills, holding onto the gains they make, and being patient through the setbacks. Progress is measured in small, hard-won steps, and being part of that is the reason people stay in this work.

You will support people living with the effects of brain injury, stroke, Huntington’s, Parkinson’s and other neuro conditions. Some services are rehab-focused and busy; others are long-term care where consistency is everything. The people you support are people we support, and knowing someone well is a big part of doing it right.

Brain injury services vary a lot. Tell us which kind of work suits you.

    Neuro-rehabilitation

Supporting someone to rebuild everyday skills after a brain injury or stroke, working to goals set with the therapy team.

    Long-term neuro care

Consistent, familiar support for people living with the lasting effects of a neurological condition.

    Complex and PDOC

Higher-needs care, including people with prolonged disorders of consciousness, where close observation and routine matter most.

    Called something else?

Rehabilitation support worker, support worker, HCA, nurse

The role has a few titles, rehabilitation support worker, support worker, health care assistant, or registered nurse. If you have worked in brain injury, stroke or neuro-rehab, we want to hear from you whatever your badge says. Experience with challenging behaviour after brain injury, or with the therapy side, is worth mentioning.

If your experience is the heavier clinical side, ventilation and airway management, our complex care page is the closer fit.
