Nursing in the East Midlands
Work that fits around your life, with none of the usual agency runaround.

Every shift shows its rate up front, so your confirmed rate is shown in the app before you accept. You see exactly what you will earn, and you are paid promptly with no chasing timesheets or waiting weeks to find out where you stand.
We handle your NMC registration, DBS, mandatory training and revalidation checks properly, so you can move between an NHS ward in Nottingham, a Lincolnshire care home or a secure unit in Leicestershire without repeating the same paperwork for every placement.
The region we cover
The East Midlands is a region of nearly five million people across six counties, and its hospitals, mental health services and care homes all lean on flexible nursing staff.
Acute care across the region is anchored by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, one of England’s largest acute trusts, whose Queen’s Medical Centre is the single designated adult Major Trauma Centre for the whole East Midlands, taking the most seriously injured from a catchment of around four million people. Every other acute site feeds into it. In Leicester, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust runs Leicester Royal Infirmary, Glenfield Hospital with the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre and one of the UK’s largest ECMO services, and Leicester General. To the west, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton runs the Royal Derby Hospital and Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust covers the north of Derbyshire. In Lincolnshire, United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals runs Lincoln County and Pilgrim Hospital in Boston, while Northern Lincolnshire and Goole runs the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby and Scunthorpe General. In Northamptonshire, Northampton General and Kettering General cover the county, and Rutland is served by Leicester and by Peterborough City Hospital.
Mental health and community care are spread across several trusts. Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS forensic and secure providers in the country, working from more than 120 sites and running Rampton Hospital near Retford, one of only three high secure hospitals in England. Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust covers Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland from the Bradgate Mental Health Unit, and Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust runs Berrywood Hospital in Northampton alongside the large independent specialist charity St Andrew’s Healthcare. The region also carries a genuinely large prison estate of sixteen prisons, from HMP Nottingham, HMP Whatton and HMP Gartree to the newer HMP Fosse Way and HMP Five Wells, HMP Lincoln, HMP Sudbury and HMP Stocken. On the independent side, Spire Nottingham, Spire Leicester in Oadby, Nuffield Health Derby and Three Shires in Northampton all run busy operating theatres.

Nursing and residential homes across Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland rely on regular agency cover, and we place carers and nurses for community and district rounds too.

That spans Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland, taking in Nottingham, Leicester, Derby, Lincoln, Northampton and the towns in between.

Specialisms in the East Midlands
Whatever your ward or setting, there is regular work across the region.
The East Midlands care sector is large and under real pressure. Skills for Care put around 1,500 care-providing organisations running roughly 3,600 locations across the region in 2023/24, with about 174,000 adult social care posts and thousands of vacancies. The region has a consistently older-than-average population, with Rutland at 26.3% aged 65 and over at the 2021 Census and Lincolnshire among the oldest in England, which keeps nursing and residential homes needing steady, reliable cover. It is some of the most consistent work we offer.

Mental health work spans several trusts here. Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust runs one of the largest forensic and secure services in the country, including the high secure Rampton Hospital near Retford. Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust covers Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland from the Bradgate Mental Health Unit, and Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust runs Berrywood Hospital alongside the independent St Andrew’s Healthcare. We place mental health nurses and support workers into inpatient wards, community teams and secure units.

The East Midlands holds one of the larger prison estates in the country, with sixteen prisons spread across every county. They range from Category B locals like HMP Nottingham, HMP Leicester and HMP Lincoln to long-term and training prisons such as HMP Gartree, HMP Stocken and HMP Whatton, one of Europe’s largest for adult male sex offenders, plus newer sites at HMP Fosse Way near Leicester and HMP Five Wells at Wellingborough. Prison healthcare is nurse-led and always short of hands, and it is some of the most rewarding work going for nurses who want something different from a ward.

Critical care across the region centres on the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, which takes the most serious injuries from across the six counties, backed by intensive care units at Leicester Royal Infirmary, the Royal Derby Hospital, Lincoln County and Northampton General. Glenfield Hospital in Leicester also runs one of the UK’s largest ECMO services. We place experienced ITU and HDU nurses where the pressure is highest.

Theatre work runs across both sectors. The region’s NHS trusts operate scores of theatres between them, and independent hospitals including Spire Nottingham, Spire Leicester in Oadby, Nuffield Health Derby and Three Shires in Northampton all run full surgical lists. We place scrub, anaesthetic and recovery nurses across elective and emergency work.

Care & support work in the East Midlands
Most care across the East Midlands is delivered by care assistants and support workers rather than registered nurses. Skills for Care counts around 174,000 adult social care posts across roughly 3,600 locations in the region, and the work spans elderly care homes, supported living and specialist neuro-rehabilitation. Whatever your background, there is regular work near you.
Lincolnshire alone has around 270 care homes, and demand is heaviest on the coast: in East Lindsey, around Skegness and Mablethorpe, close to a third of residents are aged 65 or over — among the oldest populations in England, and the highest median age of any district in the East Midlands at 52, up from 49 a decade earlier. Care assistants are the backbone of these homes, supporting older people with everyday living, personal care and companionship.

The region is actively shifting support towards supported living: Nottinghamshire County Council’s housing-with-support approach sets out how it helps working-age adults with a learning disability or long-term condition live in their own homes rather than in residential care. That means steady demand for support workers who help the people they support live as independently as possible — in their own tenancies and out in the community, rather than in a care-home setting.

More than 10,000 people are living with a dementia diagnosis across the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire NHS area alone, a figure that continues to edge up as the region’s older population grows. The local diagnosis rate sits at around 70%, among the better-performing in England, so more older people are being identified and supported earlier. Dementia care is some of the most valued work in the sector, supporting residents to live well day to day.

The East Midlands has a genuine national brain-injury anchor in St Andrew’s Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest mental health charities, whose 140-acre Northampton campus is home to the National Brain Injury Centre and its Kemsley neurobehavioural rehabilitation unit, with more than 200 neuropsychiatry beds and specialist services for acquired brain injury and Huntington’s disease. Rehabilitation support workers here help the people they support rebuild skills and independence after an acquired brain injury, work closely related to the complex-care roles that involve tracheostomy and other clinical support.
