Nursing in North Wales
Work that fits around your life, with none of the usual agency runaround.
Whether you are on Anglesey, in Bangor, Caernarfon, Llandudno, Rhyl, Mold or Wrexham, you pick the shifts that suit you. The app shows what is available nearby, so you are not driving the length of the A55 for a single shift.
There are no vague promises here. Your confirmed rate is shown in the app before you accept, so you know exactly what a shift pays before you commit, and you are paid promptly with no chasing timesheets.
We handle your DBS, mandatory training and NMC revalidation properly, and we keep you right for Care Inspectorate Wales and Social Care Wales requirements, so you can move between a ward at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, a care home in Conwy and a unit in Wrexham without repeating the same paperwork for every placement.
The region we cover
Health and social care in Wales is devolved, and North Wales is served by one health board covering around 700,000 people across Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham. Its hospitals, mental health units and care homes all lean on flexible nursing staff.
NHS Wales is organised into local health boards rather than trusts, and the whole of North Wales sits with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, the largest health organisation in Wales. It runs three district general hospitals, Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd at Bodelwyddan and Wrexham Maelor, alongside around twenty other acute and community hospitals and more than ninety health centres, clinics and mental health units. Community sites include Llandudno General, Abergele Hospital, Ysbyty Penrhos Stanley in Holyhead, Cefni Hospital in Llangefni, Ysbyty Eryri in Caernarfon, Ysbyty Alltwen at Tremadog, Bryn Beryl in Pwllheli, Tywyn Hospital and the community hospitals at Denbigh, Ruthin, Holywell, Mold, Deeside and Chirk. The health board has been in Welsh Government special measures since 2023 and remained there in 2026, which keeps demand for reliable temporary staff high.
North Wales has no major trauma centre of its own. All three district general hospitals are designated trauma units within the North West Midlands and North Wales Major Trauma Network, with the adult major trauma centre at Royal Stoke University Hospital across the border. Specialist care is concentrated at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, which houses the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre, the region’s radiotherapy service and a SABR lung service, and the Sub-Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Centre, an eighteen million pound unit opened in 2018 with around twenty cots. Mental health is delivered from three hospital-based units, the Hergest Unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd, the Ablett Unit at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and the Heddfan Unit at Wrexham Maelor, with the Ty Llywelyn medium secure unit at Bryn y Neuadd in Llanfairfechan and the North Wales Adolescent Service at Abergele. Wrexham is also home to HMP Berwyn, the largest prison in England and Wales.
Where we work
From Anglesey and the Llyn Peninsula along the coast to Deeside and Wrexham, we place nurses and carers across every setting.
We support wards, day units and operating theatres across the region’s three district general hospitals, Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd at Bodelwyddan and Wrexham Maelor, as well as community hospitals from Holyhead and Caernarfon to Llandudno, Mold and Chirk.
Nursing and residential homes across Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham rely on regular agency cover, and we place carers and nurses for domiciliary and community rounds too, from the coastal towns out to the rural interior.
We cover mental health inpatient units and secure and forensic settings, from the Hergest Unit in Bangor and the Ablett Unit at Bodelwyddan to the Heddfan Unit in Wrexham and Ty Llywelyn at Llanfairfechan, as well as nurse-led healthcare inside HMP Berwyn.
That spans the Isle of Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham, taking in Bangor, Holyhead, Caernarfon, Llandudno, Colwyn Bay, Rhyl, Denbigh, Mold, Deeside and Wrexham.
Bordering areas we also cover include Wales, Mid Wales and the North West.

Specialisms in North Wales
Whatever your ward or setting, from the three district general hospitals to care homes on Anglesey and secure work in Wrexham, there is regular work here.
Care in Wales is regulated by Care Inspectorate Wales, and its Chief Inspector’s annual report for 2024 to 2025 counted 1,018 adult care home services and 750 domiciliary support services as at 31 March 2025, with domiciliary support growing by almost eight per cent in a single year. Care home places have been falling across Wales over the past decade while the population aged 65 and over has grown, so homes across Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Anglesey need steady, reliable cover. Standards are high, with 84 per cent of adult social care ratings good or excellent, and it is some of the most consistent work we offer.

Mental health across North Wales is delivered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board from three hospital-based adult units: the Hergest Unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, the Ablett Unit at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and the Heddfan Unit at Wrexham Maelor, with psychiatric intensive care at Hergest and Heddfan and a locked intensive rehabilitation unit within Ablett. Forensic care sits at the 25-bed Ty Llywelyn medium secure unit on the Bryn y Neuadd site at Llanfairfechan, and the North Wales Adolescent Service at Abergele Hospital provides CAMHS inpatient and intensive home-based care for 12 to 18 year olds. We place mental health nurses and support workers into inpatient wards, community teams and secure units.

Wrexham is home to HMP Berwyn, which opened in February 2017 and holds more than 2,000 men, making it the largest prison in England and Wales and one of the largest in Europe. It is a Category C resettlement and training prison, and it is the only prison in North Wales. Prison healthcare is nurse-led and always short of hands, and it is some of the most rewarding work going for nurses who want something different from a ward.

Critical care in North Wales runs through the three district general hospitals. Ysbyty Gwynedd, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and Wrexham Maelor are all designated trauma units in the North West Midlands and North Wales Major Trauma Network, with the most seriously injured routed to the major trauma centre at Royal Stoke University Hospital. Ysbyty Glan Clwyd also holds the region’s Sub-Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Centre, with intensive care, high dependency and special care cots and links to the special care units at Bangor and Wrexham. We place experienced ITU, HDU and neonatal nurses where the pressure is highest.

Theatre lists run across the region’s three district general hospitals at Bangor, Bodelwyddan and Wrexham, with day surgery and outpatient procedures spread through the community hospital network from Llandudno and Abergele to Mold and Deeside. Ysbyty Glan Clwyd also carries the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre, so surgical and oncology work often sits side by side. We place scrub, anaesthetic and recovery nurses across elective and emergency work.

Care & support work in North Wales
Most care across North Wales is delivered by care assistants and support workers rather than registered nurses. The region’s six councils — Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham — commission adult social care for around 700,000 people, and the work spans elderly care homes, supported living and community neuro-rehabilitation. Whatever your background, there is regular work near you.
Conwy has one of the oldest populations in Wales: at the 2021 Census 27.4% of residents were aged 65 or over, among the highest shares of any local authority in the country. Care-home places along this coast have been falling over the past decade even as the older population grows, so homes across Conwy, Denbighshire and Flintshire lean heavily on reliable staff. Care assistants are the backbone of these homes, supporting residents with everyday living, personal care and companionship.

North Wales’s six councils are steadily shifting support away from residential care towards supported living and extra-care housing, and they work together through the North Wales Social Care and Wellbeing Services Improvement Collaborative on shared priorities, including helping people with learning disabilities live more independently and into work. That means steady demand for support workers who help the people they support live as independently as possible — in their own homes and out in the community, rather than in a care-home setting.

An estimated 11,900 people are living with dementia across North Wales, according to figures published by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. With the region’s population ageing — more than a quarter of Conwy residents are already aged 65 or over — demand for skilled dementia care in the six counties’ care homes continues to grow. Dementia care is some of the most valued work in the sector, supporting residents to live well day to day.

North Wales has its own dedicated neuro service — the North Wales Brain Injury Service, an inter-disciplinary community rehabilitation team based at Colwyn Bay Community Hospital and run by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Rehabilitation support workers here help the people they support rebuild skills and independence after a brain injury, work closely related to the complex-care roles that involve tracheostomy and other clinical support.

It is a real asset. Wales is bilingual, and the highest proportions of Welsh speakers are in the north west, with 64.4 per cent in Gwynedd and 55.8 per cent on Anglesey at the 2021 Census. Welsh-speaking nurses and carers are especially valued in care homes and community settings, though plenty of our shifts do not require it.
