The work: nursing adults with learning disabilities

This is a registered nursing role in a nursing home supporting adults with learning disabilities. As the RGN on shift you are the senior clinical presence, leading a team of support staff and making the calls that keep residents safe and well. The work is person-centred and clinically broad: managing medication and long-term physical health needs, wound and pressure care, monitoring and escalating changes in people who may not easily tell you they feel unwell, and following each resident’s support plan and, where needed, a positive behaviour support approach. It rewards nursing-home nurses who see the person before the diagnosis and who lead calmly.

Experience of working in a nursing or care home supporting adults with learning disabilities is essential for this booking, because you will be relied on to recognise what “normal” looks like for each resident and act quickly when it changes.
