Nursing in South West Wales
Work that fits around your life, with none of the usual agency runaround.
Whether you are in Swansea, Neath, Port Talbot, Llanelli, Carmarthen, Haverfordwest or out towards the Pembrokeshire coast, you pick the shifts that suit you. The app shows what is available nearby, so you are not driving the length of the M4 and the A48 for a single shift.
Your confirmed rate is shown in the app before you accept, so you know exactly what a shift pays before you commit to it. You are paid promptly too, with no chasing timesheets and no waiting weeks to find out where you stand.
We handle your DBS, mandatory training and NMC revalidation checks properly, and we know what Care Inspectorate Wales and Social Care Wales expect, so you can move between a hospital ward in Swansea, a care home in Carmarthenshire and a mental health unit in Pembrokeshire without repeating the same paperwork for every placement.
The region we cover
Health and social care in Wales is devolved to the Welsh Government and hospital and community services are run by local health boards, not by the NHS trusts that run them in England. Two health boards cover this region, serving close to 700,000 people across Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, and their hospitals, mental health services and care homes all lean on flexible nursing staff.
Swansea Bay University Health Board covers Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, serving around 390,000 people with roughly 12,500 staff. Its acute heart is Morriston Hospital in Swansea, a 750-bed site that is the trauma unit with specialist services for this part of Wales, feeding into the South Wales Trauma Network whose major trauma centre is the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. Morriston holds the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery, the adult burns lead for the South West UK Burns Network, along with the regional cardiac and cardiothoracic centre, vascular, renal and stroke services, the Welsh Institute of Metabolic and Obesity Surgery and the Ty Olwen palliative care unit. Singleton Hospital in Swansea is home to the South West Wales Cancer Centre, opened in 2004, with four linear accelerators for radiotherapy alongside chemotherapy and haematology. Neath Port Talbot Hospital at Baglan runs a minor injury unit rather than an emergency department, with Gorseinon Hospital providing community and rehabilitation beds.
West of the Loughor, Hywel Dda University Health Board looks after Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, along with Ceredigion, serving around 385,000 people across roughly a dozen hospitals. Glangwili General Hospital in Carmarthen is its largest acute site with a 24/7 consultant-led emergency department, Withybush General Hospital in Haverfordwest has an emergency department of its own, and Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli runs a doctor-led minor injury unit. Mental health care runs from the Hafan Derwen campus on Jobswell Road in Carmarthen, home to the Cwm Seren inpatient unit, Tudor House and Ty Bryn, and from Bro Cerwyn on Fishguard Road in Haverfordwest, which also houses St Brynach Day Hospital and the Child, Adolescent and Family Unit. Swansea Bay UHB, meanwhile, provides mental health, learning disability and forensic services more widely, including Cefn Coed Hospital in Swansea, Tonna Hospital in Neath, and the health board’s secure services on the Glanrhyd site in Bridgend, the medium secure Caswell Clinic and the low secure Taith Newydd. The two boards also plan together through the South West Wales Regional Joint Committee. Add HMP Swansea, the region’s only prison, and there is nurse-led work here well beyond the ward.
Where we work
From the Swansea and Neath Port Talbot conurbation out to rural Carmarthenshire and the Pembrokeshire coast, we place nurses and carers across every setting.
We support wards, day units and operating theatres across both health boards, from Morriston and Singleton in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot Hospital at Baglan to Glangwili in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush in Haverfordwest.
Nursing and residential homes across Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire rely on regular agency cover, and we place carers and nurses for domiciliary and community rounds too, from the city out to the rural west where Welsh is widely spoken.
We cover mental health inpatient units and secure and forensic settings, from Cefn Coed in Swansea and Tonna in Neath to Cwm Seren at Hafan Derwen in Carmarthen and Bro Cerwyn in Haverfordwest, as well as nurse-led healthcare inside HMP Swansea.
That takes in Swansea, Neath, Port Talbot, Llanelli, Carmarthen, Ammanford, Haverfordwest, Milford Haven, Pembroke, Tenby and the towns and villages in between.
Bordering areas we also cover include Wales, South East Wales and Mid Wales.

Specialisms in South West Wales
Whatever your ward or setting, from Swansea’s acute hospitals to care homes in Carmarthenshire and mental health units in Pembrokeshire, there is regular work here.
Care in Wales is regulated by Care Inspectorate Wales, and the sector is a big one. CIW’s Chief Inspector’s annual report for 2024-25 counted 1,018 registered adult care homes and 750 domiciliary support services across Wales, with the domiciliary figure up 55 on the previous year, and around 83,000 people work in social care in Wales on Social Care Wales workforce data. That leaves nursing and residential homes across Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire needing steady, reliable agency cover, and it is some of the most consistent work we offer. In much of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire a bit of Welsh goes a long way with residents, though it is never a requirement for our shifts.

Mental health work spans both health boards. Swansea Bay University Health Board provides mental health, learning disability and forensic services from sites including Cefn Coed Hospital in Swansea and Tonna Hospital in Neath, and it also runs the medium secure Caswell Clinic and the low secure Taith Newydd, both on the Glanrhyd site in Bridgend, which provide forensic mental health care for south, west and mid Wales. Hywel Dda University Health Board covers Carmarthenshire from the Hafan Derwen campus in Carmarthen, including the Cwm Seren inpatient unit, Tudor House and Ty Bryn, and Pembrokeshire from Bro Cerwyn in Haverfordwest. We place mental health nurses and support workers into inpatient wards, community teams and secure units.

HMP Swansea is the only prison in the four areas we cover here, a Victorian Category B and C local prison for adult men holding both remand and sentenced prisoners, with room for around 440 and inspectors finding it running above capacity in early 2025. Wales as a whole has six prisons, all male, with no women’s prison anywhere in the country, so women sentenced in Wales serve their time in England. Healthcare inside HMP Swansea is delivered through NHS Wales, with Swansea Bay University Health Board responsible for healthcare inside the prison, and it is some of the most rewarding work going for nurses who want something different from a ward.

Critical care in the region centres on Morriston Hospital in Swansea, the trauma unit with specialist services for South West Wales, providing orthoplastics, spinal surgery and level 1 rehabilitation into the South Wales Trauma Network, which Swansea Bay hosts operationally and whose major trauma centre is the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. Morriston runs multiple intensive therapy units alongside coronary care and the regional cardiac centre. To the west, Glangwili General Hospital in Carmarthen and Withybush General Hospital in Haverfordwest run the emergency departments for the western counties. We place experienced ITU and HDU nurses where the pressure is highest.

Theatre work is steady across the region. Morriston runs full surgical lists across burns and plastics, cardiothoracic, vascular, bariatric and orthoplastic surgery, Singleton and Neath Port Talbot Hospital handle planned and day-case work, and Hywel Dda’s acute sites at Glangwili in Carmarthen and Withybush in Haverfordwest carry surgical and day-case work of their own. We place scrub, anaesthetic and recovery nurses across elective and emergency work.

Care & support work in South West Wales
Most care across South West Wales is delivered by care assistants and support workers rather than registered nurses. Four unitary councils — Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire — run adult social care for close to 700,000 people, and the work spans elderly care homes, supported living and care in people’s own homes. Whatever your background, there is regular work near you.
Pembrokeshire has one of the oldest populations in Wales: more than a quarter of people, around 26%, were aged 65 or over at the 2021 census, with neighbouring Carmarthenshire close behind at roughly 24%. That feeds steady demand across the nursing and residential homes of Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, where care assistants are the backbone of the workforce, supporting residents with everyday living, personal care and companionship.

Alongside its care homes, the region is steadily shifting support towards supported living and care in people’s own homes: across Wales the number of registered domiciliary support services reached 750 in 2024-25, up 55 in a single year on Care Inspectorate Wales figures. That means dependable demand for support workers who help the people they support live as independently as possible — often across the scattered rural communities of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire rather than in a care-home setting.

With some of the oldest populations in Wales, dementia weighs especially heavily here: the number of people aged 65 to 74 rose by around a fifth in both Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire between the 2011 and 2021 censuses. Diagnosis often lags behind in Wales, too, leaving many older people living with the condition without the formal diagnosis and support that should follow. Dementia care is some of the most valued work in the sector, supporting residents to live well day to day.

Learning-disability support is well established across the region. Drive, a charity founded in 1981, provides supported living, respite and community support for people with learning disabilities and autism across Neath Port Talbot, and every council here commissions this kind of support. That means steady work for support workers who help the people they support build skills, routines and independence in their own homes and out in the community.
