    The work

What a support worker shift actually looks like

You already know the job. It is about supporting people to live the life they want, on their own terms and in their own home. Personal care where it is needed, yes, but also getting out to college or the shops, cooking together, keeping the routines that matter, and being good company on an ordinary day.

The people you support are exactly that, people we support, not patients. Some services are busy and social, some are quieter one-to-one arrangements, and some ask for positive behaviour support experience. Tell us which you are comfortable with and we will match you to it.

    Settings

Supported living, residential and short breaks

Support work covers a few kinds of service, and they feel quite different to work in. Tell us which suits you.

    Supported living

Helping someone live in their own home or a shared house, with as much or as little support as they need to run their day.

    Residential services

A staffed home shared by a small group, where you support daily living, activities and getting out and about.

    Waking nights and sleep-ins

Overnight support, whether that means staying awake on shift or sleeping in and being there if you are needed.

    Called something else?

Support worker, care and support worker, key worker

Services name the role all sorts of ways, and it does not change the work. Support worker, care and support worker, key worker, or a job with community or complex needs in the title. If any of those are yours, this is your page. Experience with autism, positive behaviour support or non-verbal communication is worth mentioning when you enquire.

If your work is more health-led, with tracheostomy, ventilation or PEG feeding, that sits on our complex care page instead.
